Throughout the documentary “Well Founded Fear” by Shari Robertson and Michael Camerini asylum seekers told their story about the reason they should be one out of every two hundred to be granted asylum in the United States. The search for asylum is one that is sometimes disheartening, uncertain, and unpredictable. As humans come to the United States in search of asylum, asylum officers are tasked with deciding the fate of asylum seekers. There are problems with the process of being granted asylum so it is necessary that some solutions are developed.
Right now, every country has to decide on how many refugees it is willing to accept. Just very recently, Germany agreed to take in 800,000 refugees. In order to cater to the immigrants’ immediate needs, the country needs around $5 billion, and the officials believe that it is manageable. Under the traditional law, asylum was recognised as the right of the state to be conferred, in its discretion, and individual could only request for it and if granted enjoy it. Unfortunately, all the efforts to ensure right of asylum to every person fearing persecution have been forestalled by states. In the last few years U.S.A, Australia, Germany, France and other European countries to name a few, are increasingly putting into practice restrictive asylum policies in order to deter and to prevent asylum-seekers from seeking refuge in their territory.

This quote is saying to always help someone when they ask.
Most of the hardship will come from racism from other citizens of that country. Refugees will also have to find their way of assimilating to that country to seem “normal” to others. Refugees leave their country for many reasons; to escape war, or to help their family. There is always a reason why refugees immigrate to another country. World War Two was the most deadly war in history, with 418,500 soldier and civilian deaths. The number of lives cost would have increased significantly if the United States did not drop the bomb on the Japanese. The bombing of Hiroshima cost 45,000 lives. A Japanese attack such as the Attack on Nanking killed around 220,00 people. Although dropping the bomb on Japan can be seen as inhumane, the bomb needed to be dropped because it saved American lives, ended World War Two, and got justice for the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

Somali Refugees In American Since about the late 1900’s Somali Refugees have been coming to the United States in hope for a better lifestyle than they had at home with famine and war. Somali refugees are brought to the U.S. by different organizations that support families from other countries that have had a hard life styles and isn’t easy living in their home country. They arrive in the U.S. being new to the country and not having much understanding of the daily living and also feeling unsettled.

The war in Iraq 20 March 2003 was the day everything changed, this was the day Americans stepped foot onto that foreign desert land that we now know of as Iraq. Many people have their own opinion about if the United States made the right decision deciding to go to war with this country. There are both positive and negative attributes that have come from us going to war. As stated before Americans are either for this decision or against. A refugee is a person who has left their country because of fear of their safety due to violence, race, religion, or war. Supporting and solving today’s refugee crisis is especially controversial because of the current events, financing, and security issues. ("Refugee Facts”). Climate change and natural disasters sometimes cause people to leave their homes or countries.
I chose this topic because I read an article on the Internet stating that the refugee crisis worldwide has displaced 60 million people from their homes since the end of World War II pushing asylum to their limits. That article stated the threat countries are facing as they are fleeing from countries like Syria and Iraq to places like Central America and Africa to seek asylum. I want to research whether countries should be morally obligated to give asylum to refugees. I want to also find out what causes this problem, what effects and consequences this will have on the country. Finally I want to obtain a possible course of action to try to put an end to this problem.
A refugee is a person who has been forced to leave their home country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster. There are many different types of refugees, these include refugees who are escaping war, social discrimination, racial discrimination, religious persecution, those who are seeking aid after a natural disaster, political unrest, and those who fear for their lives and the lives of their family. These people are given refugee status and are placed in designated refugee camps across the country where they are supposed to be cared for and educated, but this is not happening. Many of the countries only provide shelter for the refugees but do not provide the rest of the basic needs. There are many factors that contribute to a person becoming a refugee these include war, famine, racial prejudice, religion, harassment or torture due to political views, nationality, and natural disaster.
