After World War II, the United States acquired a massive economic boost, which allowed for health care in America to be born. This system allowed for health insurance to be provided by the employer, and as a result, health care became extremely valuable to companies and workers. A single dollar in health benefits was worth significantly more than a dollar in wages due to non-taxable aspect of health insurance. Decades later, the government loses millions of dollars a year from not taxing health insurance. Today, so many families are unable to afford quality health insurance or their health insurance does not cover their needs. In the United States, there are roughly 50 million Americans who live their lives with no health insurance. (Sicko) Everyday they live in fear of becoming ill or physically injured causing a dramatic change in their finances and lifestyle. This circumstance is usually a result of one of two options. First, that the dependent does not have health insurance as an employee benefit, or is not employed, and therefore must be independently purchased. Second, a handful of insurance companies deny customers needed care when all requirements are in order, and many times ending in death. These insurance companies are directly responsible for a majority of those deaths. The movie sicko takes a person into the dirty work of insurance companies. One man is employed to look over the medical history of thousands and thousands people looking for flaws in the application or preexisting conditions to cancel the policy and save money. Yet, there are still loopholes for the companies. For instance, if prior for any insurance from kicking in, any symptoms can be considered a pre-existing medical issue. However, those symptoms are the reason for seeking medical attention. England currently provides health care to all its citizens free of cost. This system began in 1948 and the man who created and designed this free healthcare system became a hero in England. (Sicko) However, if the government made an effort to dismantle the system, the people would revolt. England could easily become bankrupt from the overpowering expense and would no solution to solve the problem without upsetting the public. This situation is extremely dangerous for a country and is not worth the risk. 2016 is a new year, and the healthcare system is subject to change with the introduction to a new president. Each president has a plan in mind in effort to please the public while still considering the immediate cost to the government as well as decades later. The implication of free health care must take into account the present and future and how the system will be beneficial to America in 50 years. Employment is the most efficient and cost effective path to receiving the best healthcare. Free health care puts unneeded financial strain on taxpayers and the federal government.
