The issue of gun control is the violence caused by the lack of restrictions. Throughout the country, there are mass shootings performed by people who have mental imbalances. These people are not sound in judgement. Guns do not always create a negative affect. Firearms are a staple of law enforcement. According to an author for Business Insider, Matthew Speiser, “In 2013, firearms were used as the weapon in 68% of all homicides”(Speiser). The abuse of guns is the problem people have with firearms of all kinds. Some problems with gun control include but are not limited to: the unauthorized sale and distribution of firearms, the ability to purchase firearms without a background check, and the unlawful use of firearms. However, my opinion on gun control include four different policies. One policy includes the national registration of all firearms. This is not an infringement on the second amendment and should be put into place so that law enforcement can readily have access to information on potential threats to a community. Next, there should be a mandatory background check on all purchases or trades of firearms. Another law that should be placed into effect should be a mandatory mental health screening. This will help keep the mentally imbalanced out of harm's way. Finally, the waiting period on purchased firearms should be extended to approximately a week. Four extra days should help cut down the number of people who “slip through the cracks” do to lack of processing. Gun control in America needs to be resolved. People need to have the ability to enjoy walking down the street without fear of being shot by people who should not even own a gun. People should be able to feel safe in their own home even if they do not own a gun
