Legalization of Recreational Marijuana
In order for someone to overdose on marijuana, he or she would have to smoke about 1,500 pounds in under fifteen minutes (Dovey). There is no way a person could smoke that much in under fifteen minutes, although many people argue how dangerous marijuana is. Marijuana is not dangerous and has many medicinal uses, if doctors could use it as a medicine why can’t people use it as a product. The recreational use of marijuana should be legalized because it is not harmful, it can stimulate the economy, and could it easily be regulated by the government.

This argument is invalid because marijuana is something that not only calms a person down but can also help one think clearly if there is a high stress factor in their daily life. The more common product which is actually legal is alcohol which can cause states of anger and abuse by those who use it. According to the Marijuana Policy Project, “Alcohol is a particularly significant factor in the prevalence of domestic violence and sexual assault, whereas marijuana is not.” Alcohol is so easily accepted in our society that we often don’t take a second thought about picking up a beer and drinking it. Although it is fine to drink in moderation, it is not fine to label alcohol as less deadly that marijuana. There are thousands of studies showing the minimal effect marijuana has on our bodies, yet we crucify any who use the drug saying that they are addicted and are only bringing harm to their bodies. According to Kramer, “More teenagers use marijuana then any other street drug.” If it was legalized recreationally the government would take away business from the drug dealers who would then be able to only sell to the youth. The government would be able to use that money from which they got from the marijuana dispensaries, to thenceforth educate the youth about what age it is appropriate for marijuana use and also enforce stricter restrictions in schools. The youth would be educated enough to make the right decisions and understand how it effects there still developing brains at a young age.
