This approach uses the effectiveness of anecdotes in comedy to foster a deeper connection and understanding between the comedian and the audience, showing humor as a vehicle for commentary and

Laughter has the power to unite people, as Bakhtin writes, “Laughter liberates not only from external censorship but first of all from the great interior censor” (Bakhtin 94). Laughter acts as a powerful force that alleviates pain by destroying repression and turning fear into grotesque ridiculousness while also uniting people to see the positives in negative situations. Moreover, it applies to social and political issues as a satire of political figures, which acts as a weapon against the government. For example, many people use satire to alleviate the fear and anger that Donald Trump is the current US President by ridiculing and criticizing his ideas and mindset. Thus, laughter liberate us by freeing us from

I would like to start off by saying that I truly enjoyed reading “Comedy’s Unique Role During the aftermath of Societal Trauma,” written by Eve Lombardi. It’s interesting that she would write an essay on ideas revolved around comedy or humor. This essay was so well written that she was able to take elements from separate ideas about humor in social relationships, the role of societal sitcoms, and the use of comedy as a stress reliever and ultimately develop them into an amazing essay. The main reason that I enjoyed reading this essay rather than the other one was simply because I thought this topic was more interesting and unique, however, both papers were outstanding and very enjoyable to read. One thing Lombardi does especially well throughout her essay is looking at comedy on a larger scale as a social stress reliever,

The introduction of Buddhism left the region rife with controversy. The suspicion and lack of understanding around the newly introduced religion left many frustrated and ignorant of the core beliefs of Buddhism. Around 500 C.E., when dominant political figures began to endorse Buddhism, still skeptics remained. This caused for some Buddhists to write informational question and rebuttal essays, such as “The Disposition of Error”, to help clear any misunderstandings that critics may have of Buddhism. The author who wrote this essay chose to remain anonymous, which one can assume is because of the controversy surrounding the topic at the time, and did not try to sway the reader one way nor the other but only informed them of true morals that Buddhists hold (Doc 2).
In today’s popular culture most comedy revolves around giving reprieve or a pleasant pause to the busy routines of most Americans. Stand-up comedy has evolved to fulfill a need for relief and in this case comic relief. The stresses of everyday life have made the comedy genre more and more popular over the years as seen in the explosion of stand-up comedy and comedy films. As comedy has gained more popularity it has intertwined politics, philosophy, and humor. Stand-up comedy has become and art on its own evolving comics into modern day philosophers.
Humorists provide these busy people with means by which they can quickly learn about ongoing issues or events. My mother could never find time to read long news articles; therefore, she got all her information from morning news programs where the hosts would dilute the subject and only present valuable information very quickly and effectively. In the absence of humorists many busy people would not be able to keep up to date with current events; therefore, they play a crucial role in our society by providing many people, who lack time to read long articles, with valuable
Unfittingly, the most popular portrayal of Buddha’s attitude towards philosophy is illustrated by his “Parable of the Poisoned Arrow”. The parable is a response to the skeptic’s enquiries into the Buddha’s metaphysical views. To summarize this parable; a poisonous arrow wounds a man. His companions and relatives wish to provide him with a surgeon. But, the man says, “I will not have the arrow removed until I know who it was that wounded me.”
Humor and irony play very important roles in Everyday Use. The humor found
Comedies often provides laughter and entertainment while presenting social, political, cultural, philosophical, and theological ideas and problems. Within the comedy genre, satire presents itself in a form of sarcasm, irony and humor. It is the combination of entertainment and critique to criticize the ignorance of the person or society. It has three elements: entertainment, critical reflection to awaken the audience and to address issues and questions. It does not seek to harm, but it seeks the truth and its purpose is to create a reform purpose.
There are many functions of joking. Comedy, especially satire, is intended to be a reflection of society and ourselves. Every person or group of people have their vices and virtues, and comedy takes these traits and emphasizes them to make a statement in a humorous way. This is a great method of reducing power imbalances, painting a benevolent perception of people, and expressing currently tabooed opinions. In comedy, powerful political figures such as George W. Bush can be represented as an everyday-man, as he often was when he was portrayed by Will Farrell on Saturday Night Live.
One of the most valuable aspects of personality is humor – we value one’s sense of humor and make friends often based on finding certain things funny. But how and why do we consider things to be funny at all? Human beings have strived to uncover fundamental truths about human nature for centuries – even millennia – but humor itself is still yet to be pinpointed. Henri Bergson is only one of many who has attempted this feat, and his essay Laughter: an essay on the meaning of the comic from 1911 breaks down comedy into what he believes to be its essential forms and origins. While Bergson makes many valid points, Charlie Chaplin’s film Modern Times that was brought to screens only twenty years later seems to contradict many of Bergson’s theories, while Bergson seems to contradict even himself over the course of his essay.
Making the subject manageable lets the comedians restrict what they say about it, which will affect the response of the audience. In support of freedom of speech, comedians boost the mood of the subject from a dark place to a wittier
