Planned parenthood is an organization that provides healthcare to women who are under informed about their reproductive system and how it works. They also provide care to women who have unplanned pregnancies and others who want to learn more about their health and how to prevent problems. They have over 56 different locally run affiliates nationwide who operate 650 health centers(“planned parenthood”). This is extremely beneficial for people who otherwise wouldn’t have access to healthcare options. Planned Parenthood partners give educational programs to 1.5 million young people and adults every year(“planned parenthood”). Many people are protesting and causing an uproar all over the world. They also provide abortions that are immoral and go against many people’s beliefs, including my own. This is why I believe that abortions should be made illegal and Planned Parenthood should no longer receive funding from the United States government. The disgust with planned parenthood causes many protests and arguments around the world and most of the uproar is because of the abortions that their centers provide. These arguments and fights have been going on for decades and the reasoning behind them leads us right back to abortion. Since 1973, when a Supreme Court decision ruled in Roe v Wade, which legalized abortion only during the first trimester of pregnancy, there has been no end to the national controversy of abortion rights(“Roe v. Wade”, “Why planned”). The dictionary definition of an abortion is “The ending of pregnancy by removing a fetus or embryo before it can survive outside the uterus. An abortion that occurs spontaneously is also known as a miscarriage. An abortion may be caused purposely and is then called an induced abortion, or less frequently, "induced miscarriage".” According to that definition, abortions can occur naturally, as miscarriages. These are some of the reasons why people rely so heavily on planned parenthood. Their services are also affordable and easy to receive. Many women turn to Planned Parenthood when they are young for information help regarding their safety and health. They also turn to them for affordable healthcare. One woman said, “I wasn’t making enough to money to afford insurance, so basically I started neglecting my own medical conditions, including my asthma.I found out about the Affordable Care Act while I was volunteering at Planned Parenthood. I was so excited because the new law meant I would be able to have health insurance again. It was very easy to enroll online, and I was able to find a perfect plan that fits my needs and my budget, and I can use it at Planned Parenthood”("Planned Parenthood"). She was able to find a source of insurance that was affordable and covered her healthcare needs. Statistics show that “83% of women and men who use Planned Parenthood are under the age of 20, 79% whose incomes are at or below 150% of the federal poverty level, and 75% of people receive treatment for unintended pregnancies”("Planned Parenthood").
