Arguments For Selective Breeding

579 Words3 Pages

Introduction-
Selective breeding, also known as artificial selection, is the process which humans use to create new organisms and the desirable characteristics. This process is done when human/s bring together two animals (such as a cow, dogs or race horses), whom have different characteristics and traits, to breed an offspring which will have part male, and part female characteristics and genetics. People use selective breeding because they own the animals, therefore they get to do what they want with them, they do this to use them for meat or if it is a cow or goat they use them for milk, or a chicken for eggs. They also use selective breeding for the fur, wool or skin of the animal they may be selective breeding. This essay will explain how a dairy cow is used for selective breeding. One pro to selective breeding is that the offspring will most likely be born free of genetic diseases. In the case of a dairy cow, they are bred from two dairy cow parents and also become a dairy cow once they have grown. This offspring will be cared for properly and raised by its parents, then will live a long life producing millions of people milk cheese and many other dairy products every day. These cows have no harm brought to them if they are raised through selective breeding.
Argument against-
As there are pros to selective breeding, there are also many cons. The main con to selective breeding (especially for religious people), is that the offspring will not be created in the image of god like the others are. This effects religious people because they believe that if someone or something is not made in the image of god, it does not have god’s traits or values. Another con to selective breeding is that the cows may not be able to create offspring because their genetics do not allow it.
