A discussion that many people of today’s world commonly has is if we should be able to design our children. This meaning that with technology, we would be able to pick and choose what characteristics we would want our children to have such as eye color, hair color, and gender. This technology would have a chance of eliminating diseases and birth defects but it can not be guaranteed that it will always work. I feel as though designer babies are not only unethical, but can cause a gap in society. One could argue against my opinion that designer babies are not okay, and you can easily take into consideration why. This would be important because if the next generation does not have the disease, then they can carry those traits on to the generations to come. This would create a long chain of generations with no diseases and would eventually lead to a healthier world. The idea of designing children is unethical. To be unethical is to be immoral. This meaning that picking traits of your future child goes against the idea and religious belief of God. This idea is that when babies are made, they are suppose to be made by the chance and possibilities of the parents DNA. To alter that is immoral and would not be accepted by society. It is completely wrong to alter the traits and abilities the child was suppose to have. Another huge problem with designer babies is the negative outcome it would make in society. Designer children would create a gap in society and would not be accepted because they are too “perfect”. These children would likely grow up thinking less of themselves and would not have many friends. Other children could not relate to designer children and would likely single them out. This reason alone is a reason on why designer children should not be aloud, their lives would not be lived to the fullest potential and they would not have the friends they
