"Designer Babies" is not a necessarily a new concept, but recently it has been a popular topic of conversation for many people, such as doctors, scientists, and soon-to-be parents all around the world. Whether they are for it or against it, "designer babies" seems to be coming up as a possible idea for the future. Many think that it is brilliant, but that is not really the case. Genetically editing and designing children before they are born is not a good idea due to the fact that it can lead to gender bias, children with severe birth defects, and a disturbance in the natural cycle of new life. "Designer Babies" is the idea that parents will be able to edit their children and choose their traits, before they are born. It can be anything from their eye color, hair color, height, athletic ability, level of intelligence, and gender. They say that this idea could be the only cure to genetic diseases, which is possible. In the future we may also be able to "cure" genetic diseases in embryos by replacing faulty sections of DNA with healthy DNA, in a process called germ line therapy (Steere). However, in this case the risks outweigh the benefits. Altering the DNA and traits of a human before it is born can cause permanent and extreme damage to it and its life. If you add up the odds, you find you'd need to edit 20 embryos to get a live monkey with the version you want (Regaldo). Because this concept is relatively new and hasn't been completely mastered, it may not turn out perfect on the first try. For example, if a mother wants a blue-eyed child and she does not end up with one, then something clearly went wrong during her embryo editing process.
