As a worker within the service industry Arlie Hochschilds concept of “Feeling Rules” truly resonated with me on a deeper level. Learning about emotional labour, provided me an explanation for the feeling I have experienced while working within the service sector. Currently working two jobs one as a hostess in a restaurant and the other as a cast member at a Cineplex theatre, I receive a fair share of difficult customers. While discussing emotional labour I felt I could relate to many aspects of the theory, I specifically remember viewing the image of the flight attendant and reverting back to all the times I have had similar thoughts. Positive emotions like happiness, contentment, and joy help us develop stability and optimism, deepen social connections, and encourage a sense of purpose and meaning in life. They can give us the motivation and energy to achieve our goals, pursue our passions, and help us navigate difficult situations more quickly and confidently. Negative emotions like anger, sadness, and fear are vital. They can help us identify areas of our lives that need attention or change and motivate us to take action. Studies have shown that individuals who can acknowledge and process negative emotions in healthy and constructive ways experience greater psychological well-being and resilience.
“A positive attitude causes a chain reaction of positive thoughts, events and outcomes. It is a catalyst and it sparks extraordinary results.” (Wade Boggs). Anne Frank is a person who remained positive even while their family was in hiding, especially at times where being scared and sad was fine. Another person who remained positive during tough times is Winston Churchill, he was the prime minister of England during WWII and kept the entire country positive while they were being bombed.
No one is capable of choosing their emotions; they come as a result of human nature. This can be seen in our behavior throughout life, from the way babies cry when they miss their parents to the reckless actions of teenagers when they feel the urge to rebel. People begin expressing their feelings before they even start crawling. It is an involuntary reflex that comes naturally and continues to our dying breath. The ability to feel emotion is an aspect of humanity that transcends generations.

Not only can they determine what we do, but also when and how we do it. At times they are stronger than others, pulling us forward or throwing us back as if we have absolutely no control. A human’s emotions can be their greatest ally or worst enemy. Positive emotions such as desire and satisfaction primarily assume the role of motivation within a person. However, negative emotions possess an even greater motivational impact due to their ability to drive a person beyond their personal limits. For example, shame is a devastating emotion that causes feelings of inadequacy and failure. As a result, people strive to prevent shame to themselves and others at all costs.
This was a compelling contrast to those who had absolutely no control over their emotions with PLC. Wanucha uses acting as an example of people being able to control their emotions her first example was an actress names Sheila Dona, she played Rizzo in the infamous production Grease. This was Dona’s first time ever attempting to cry on stage for a role. It is important that children learn this skill so that they can become functioning citizens. When they are able to control their emotions and also know how to act in social situations they are able to do things like conflict resolution. Erik Erikson was one of the first to look further into the social and emotional influence on how we grow and mature as humans and he came up with the psychosocial stages of development.
Affective labor is becoming more and more important in many economies and a lot of workers - whether consciously or unconsciously - engage in it. But how exactly is affective labor defined. Affective labor is often also called emotional labor or immaterial labor. Hochschild described the labor of flight attendants and bill collectors in an attempt to give an ample description of what emotional labor is and how it works. According to her "the term emotional labor ...mean[s] the management of feeling to create a publicly observable facial and bodily display; emotional labor is sold for a wage and therefore has exchange value.
Growing up I learned how to distinguish between negative and positive people. Political colonies are freed new and less visible forms of imperialism installed (The Promise 21). While attending School I learned that it was best to stay quiet and surround myself around positive people. It seemed like the negative people were very talkative and the positive people were very quiet.

Child labor leads to exploitation of children. In short the childhood is snatched away from these children and the only thing they learn from the start is work. Exploitation is the use of someone or something in an unjust or cruel manner, or generally as a means to one 's end. Exploitation is taking an undue advantage of something or someone for one’s own self desires. It can be of physical and emotional both types. Emotional exploitation is a type of abuse characterized by a person subjecting or exposing another to behaviour that may result in psychological trauma including anxiety and chronic depression. Such type of exploitation is associated with power imbalance such as abusive relationship, bullying and abuse in the work place.
