ART 250 Essay – The Industrial Revolution
The Industrial Revolution, which occurred between 1760 and 1840, is what people call the rapid development of industry that first occurred in Britain. This development was brought about by the introduction of machinery. (1) Oxford dictionary Many innovations in typography, printing, and photography during the industrial revolution impacted the world of graphic design, and paved the way for many of the techniques still used today.

Typography during the industrial revolution took major steps towards the typography that is known today. It began to move away from the classic roman script, towards bolder, more modern looks. While there are many innovations made in typography that impacted the world of graphic design, three from this period are: The Fat Face font, the Slab Serif, and the Sans-Serif.

At this time, Europe was experiencing an expansion of trade and commerce, and innovations in printing were changing the way in which people could get type, causing the demand for print advertisement to skyrocket.
