The Zodiac Killer was a person, most likely a male, who was a murderer. He killed at least 7 people that the police know of. He was described as having a heavy set, with thick rimmed glassed. He also had a round face. The Zodiac’s first kills were on December 20, 1968, in Vallejo, California. He was so famous, because first of all, he was never caught. Second, after he killed someone, he would send a letter admitting that he did it. The letters the Zodiac sent always started as “This is the Zodiac speaking” and then he went on to claim that he murdered one of the victims, usually he sent ciphers along with the letters for the police to crack. Most of these letters were coded through the ciphers. One of the letters had his name encoded, but …show more content…
One of the reasons why was because the night of the 3rd murder/crime that happened, Allen told his parents that he was going to Lake Berryessa (place of 3rd murder). “Allen then came home covered in blood, and the police found a bloody knife in his car” (Buzzfeed). Allen did take a DNA test that compared his saliva to the saliva found on one of the stamps on one of the letters that were sent by the Zodiac. The saliva didn’t match but Allen claimed that he has other people lick his stamps so the police couldn’t be sure. The police also made him take a handwriting test to see if his handwriting matched the Zodiac’s, and it didn’t. In 1974 Allen went to jail for child molestation for three years. During that time the papers and/or the police didn’t receive any kind of letter or sign the Zodiac. Coincidence? In 1987 Allen admitted to killing Paul Stine (one of the victims). “In 1991 Mike Mageau, the man who survived the second Zodiac attack, picked Allen out of a lineup of photos as the killer” (Buzzfeed). The Police also found constructed bombs and bomb formulas in Allen’s house. The Zodiac was big on bombs. Allen is a very likely suspect because even though the handwriting didn’t match, there was still a lot of reasons for the police to believe Allen was the Zodiac. Including the bombs, and the knife and …show more content…
This person is Lawrence “Kane” Kaye. One reason why people thought this is because the places where the victims were either murdered or lived was always close to where Kane lived. He didn’t really look like the sketch from the Paul Stine killing, but he matched the heavy-set and large-faced description. The night that Mike Mageau and Darlene Ferrin got attack the police got a phone call describing the murder and the person admitting to another murder and then hung up. Mike described the car that was there. “Just five days after this attack, in which the color and possible make and model of Zodiac’s car were given to the police, Lawrence Kane traded his car in.” (Lewis) Kane had the same type of car, in fact it was almost identical. Does this mean he did it to hide his identity? Kane can also be seen in the cipher. One of the victims was bothering his sister a week before she was murdered, which made Kane suspicious. If one of the victims were involved in his sister’s murder he might’ve been angry enough to kill the victim, but the question is if he was the Zodiac killer why would he kill all those other people? Why would he send letters to the police admitted to all of them? This is why Kane is a little questionable but just because he would have a reason for killing one of victims and he matched the description, it was enough for the police to question if he was the Zodiac or not.
