Many years have gone by, yet still no one knows the identity of the Zodiac Killer. His identity has bewildered investigators, and others alike for decades. His list is possible to have consisted of more than twenty deaths. The fact that he has yet to have been identified is what makes him part of one of the biggest unsolved mysteries. He was not like most serial killers, for he gave hints; not hints as to who he was, but as to why he murdered people. He began giving these hints in 1969. “The “Zodiac Killer” was no ordinary murderer. Rather than avoiding the spotlight, he craved media attention and seemed to enjoy taunting police with cryptic notes and clues as he left a trail of death behind him” (Chan). His first known victims were two teenagers, David Faraday and his girlfriend Betty Lou Jensen. They were both shot to death in a remote area while they were out for night. “The first confirmed murder took place on the night of December 20, 1968, when David Faraday and his girlfriend, Betty Lou Jensen, were shot to death near their car at a remote spot on Lake Herman Road, on the outskirts of Vallejo, California” (A&E Television Networks). Less than a year later, Darlene Ferrin and her boyfriend Mike Mague were attacked whilst in there car. This was similar to the first murder, however this time, there was a survivor.
