For the past two years, I have been involved in the Carmax Cares community service month. We provided assistance to the Foster Care Support Foundation in Roswell, Georgia. This organization sends out gently worn closes, shoes and other necessities to support foster care providers in the state of Georgia. We packaged items to be sent out and organized their warehouse inventory. On campus I am an active member of SABAC as well as the Georgia Club.

The efficacy of this program needs to be addressed, however, its benefit to those who become part of it is worth the tradeoff. Kimewon, since early on has been detached from his family and society as a result of his behavior. Instead of being directly sent off to prison, Kimewon had the opportunity to reconnect with his indigenous roots and learn more about where he came from through this alternative justice program. The community council program also aided him in fighting addiction as well as help him attain his high school diploma.
This does not completely work because the juveniles know they are not there to stay and will be leaving soon but the effective programs are the ones they offer at Giddings throughout the two phases where the young offenders talk about their family history and the past crimes they have
Bullying is a big issue in society. When authors put bullying into their books it helps people see that bullying is not unseen. In Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card the main character, Ender, gets bullied a lot throughout the book. At the beginning Ender gets his monitor taken out.
The reason this is one of my choices is that I believe a range of community-based alternatives are very beneficial to the needs of most juveniles and is also less costly. By having different community-based alternatives many juveniles can be sentenced to home confinement, community service, counseling, etc. which will keep the juvenile offender out of a detention center or from being incarcerated. Recently, diversion programs have cropped up in many states. The programs keep adolescents out of detention by using the communities around them to support them. The text states, that, “William S. Davidson II created the Adolescent Diversion Project, a project which pairs undergraduate students and adolescents found guilty of breaking and entering, and other crimes. These relationships have been found to cut the youths' rate of ending up back in jail for more offenses in half” (Source 4, 2). The diversion system is used by the courts to get juvenile offenders involved in their community and away from crime by showing them that there is another way to succeed in life, instead of a life of criminal activity.
This website discusses the main focus their diversion programs have when interacting with first time offenders. As it describes the main focus of the program it mentions how ninety percent of first time offenders who go through this program do not reoffend. This teen court diversion program is well known around the Lansing area of Michigan. It is well known because this program not just work with juveniles as they offend but also work closely with their family and the school they attend. Teen Court does not just focus on the individual it focuses on other factors that can potentially affect the youth.
Problem solving is used to reduce offending in a community. It believes that crimes are caused by existing social conditions. It involves both law enforcement and the community in ways to reduce or prevent crime (i.e., neighborhood watch). The community is a very important aspect of this operational strategy. Departments need to do more to develop solutions with a partnership of the community.
The Youth and School Resource Officers School Resource Officers (SROs) are sworn police officers trained to serve and protect the community. As such, they have a duty to serve and protect schools within their jurisdiction as part of a total community-policing strategy. Research has shown that the youth with healthy relationships and “protective factors” have a reduced chance of becoming involved in serious delinquency. These “protective factors” include adding school resource officers to school campuses with the growing number of at-risk students. It is important for schools to have SROs because the SRO’s role on school campus is keeping students safe and supporting the education mission not only as law enforcement officer but also as a teacher and a counselor.
The city of Memphis is in need of a program that will reduce the amount of gang violence present within the community. The City Council is having a difficult time proposing a program without the essential expertise, that’s where I come in. The intervening variables of the program must be revealed in order to propose a program that will be both effective and beneficiary. By understanding the variables that could possibly have a positive or negative affect on a program and its participants will result in a higher probability of success.
In the past couple weeks I’ve noticed that there has been a lot of violence in different communities all across Pennsylvania. There’s gun violence, drug activity, and murders being committed every day. All of these things that happen affect the children, teens, and young adults. That’s why I want to improve every community that can’t afford or are the most affected by these things.
This model is a model for improving juvenile justice through community integration. This model also brings the juvenile court, substance abuse treatment and the community to improve the alcohol and drug treatments for the teens, which also brings has them do positive activities with adults that show how much they care for them. When it comes to the school system, the first thing teachers do when a child acts up is send them to the principles office instead of actually disciplining them and stenting to there needs by actually asking them what’s going on to show them they care. The policy and discipline rules that these schools have pushed kids out of school and into the juvenile justice system. “Recent research by the Council of State Governments Justice Center that tracked nearly 1 million 7th graders in public school for 6 years showed that 60 percent of these students were removed from class at least once, and 15 percent had 11 or more suspensions or expulsions between the 7th grade and 12th grades.”

Others would say that they think it keeps young offenders from committing crime twice, that it will teach youth how to receive punishment, some would say it keeps crime out of the system etc. The reason why they are wrong because they haven't looked at the facts, they just looked at good experiences with YCJA foundation. An example I have a friend and my friend stole a car from a person in a community and crashed my friend had to pay for the damaged property, for the car and had to apologize to the people my friend stole the car from, after the whole process my friend did the same thing over repeatedly, what's the point? Well, all I think is that the YCJA is a waste of time but you don't have to because there are good things about it too it helps kids stay off the street and in homes even if its a group home. In my opinion, a group home, foster care anything like that is traumatizing toward kids in the program.
