#2: Form Departmental Partnerships As previously stated, trauma-informed organizations form collaborations with institutions, organizations, or community leaders in the area. If the SAFE Center wants to effectively implement both crisis intervention and trauma intervention models, they are going to need more manpower. Forming departmental and student organization partnerships is a way for the SAFE Center to address current staffing and resource issues. The SAFE Center is a budding organization that hopes to have all of their services provided in-house in the long-term. Whether a student is getting licensure to be a Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC), Professional Counselor (LCPC), or a similar license, they all need to fulfill mandatory supervised clinical hours. Fortunately, psychology masters or Ph.D. students can each do one year of supervised clinical hours while they are still in school. According to the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists, Licensed Clinical Professional Counselors (LCPC), Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW), Licensed Psych Nurses, Licensed Clinical Marriage Family Therapists (LCM), and Licensed Psychiatrists or licensed Psychologists can supervise clinical hours. Given that the SAFE Center has recently hired an LCSW, this is an opportune time to advertise the possibility of supervised clinical hours to students. If students do their supervised hours while in school, the SAFE Center does not have to pay them for their time; however, if these students have earned their respective degrees, then monetary accommodation would be necessary. Because students have an opportunity to work with an organization near UMD, they have an incentive to apply for internships with your organization. The SAFE Center can help to train them to assist with human-trafficking survivors through either crisis intervention models or trauma models. It’s important that if clients have language needs (interpretation or translation), there are people at the SAFE Center who can reliably meet those needs. At the undergraduate level, ARHU offers bachelor’s degrees in twelve languages. The College of Arts and Humanities (ARHU) has undergraduate and graduate students that the SAFE Center could recruit for language competency purposes. Additionally, all students majoring in a language must study the history and culture of their respective languages; therefore, students should have historical and contextual knowledge that would inform how they should interact with clients. ARHU works very hard to offer their students meaningful resources to continually enhance their language skills, including: the language house, mentorship programs, and language partnership exchanges. Therefore, ARHU would be amenable to forming a partnership with the SAFE Center to offer undergraduates an opportunity to gain professional experience. If the center wishes to specifically target native or near-native speakers, many of the language programs have classes for heritage speakers who would be ideal
