Assisted suicide also known as euthanasia, is the painless killing of somebody who is terminally ill or in very much pain and dying. It is illegal in most countries. The reason it is illegal is because (according to NHS) it is illegal to help someone kill themselves no matter the circumstances. In the UK assisted suicide has a 14 year maximum in prison but in the USA it varies in different states. There are two main types of euthanasia, voluntary and involuntary. Voluntary is euthanasia conducted with consent. Involuntary is euthanasia conducted without consent, which is if somebody is unable to make the decision themselves someone else does. Let's say that I am diagnosed with terminal cancer and have 6-8 months to live. 8 months later I am in the hospital in excruciating pain but he can not help me die because euthanasia is illegal. So that however much long I am in the hospital with terminal cancer I will have to be in pain every single day of my life and nothing can be done and I have to die in pain. If it was legal I could ask the doctor for something to help me die and he could provide and then I would not have to die in pain. I do not see why it is illegal but i can see why some doctors or physicians would not want to do this. As a patient you should have the right to euthanasia it is your decision and your life. Doctors may not want to do it due to their religious and ethics; also their hippocratic oath says do no harm. If you don’t perform euthanasia and the patient is in immense pain not performing euthanasia is doing more harm than letting them live with that pain. I can see where this would not be good in every country though. Some doctors could perform euthanasia but the patient did not want it and no one would know. A patient wants euthanasia and get it but the doctor never reports it so it looks like they just died and that could prove to be a very large problem. If everyone had good intentions with it then it should be legal in every country but that will never happen so i see why it is not legal in
