Therefore, being a Christian myself, I believe that anyone claiming to believe in God when in fact they don’t are no different than an atheist because they are only saying they are believers in hopes of gaining a reward. I find this philosophical theory interesting because I have never heard of betting on God’s existence by pretending to believe in him. The argument is that the all-powerful God would not allow evil to exist in the world and would therefore exterminate all evil. While evil still exists within the world this is proof to the atheist that God does not exist. People are not supposed to take everything for granted, at the expenses of forgetting their own cultural identities. Religion is not a chain. For some people, it can be perceived as a philosophy of life. People with different religions, including those who are atheists, have in common in terms of trying to establishing their ways of thinking and moral standards. After reading H.J. McCloskey’s article entitled “On Being an Atheist”, I believe that the main point he was trying to make was atheism is a more reasonable and comfortable belief compared to that of the Christian faith. There were three different proofs from which McCloskey attempted to build his case. The three proofs that he used were the cosmological argument, the theological argument, and the argument for design. McCloskey also brought up in his article the problem of evil in the world and he even went as far as to claim that it is not rational to live by faith. McCloskey claimed that proofs do not necessarily bring people to a belief in God.
