For 2015 Fall Semester, my field placement is in internship with the Atlanta Police Department in the Criminal Investigation Unit in Zone 3. During the orientation period, my goal is to obtain information about the agency in regards of it administrative and organization functions as well as the main purpose of the unit. My activities will include searching facts about the agency online on the Atlanta Police department website and interviewing the lieutenant and the detectives in the unit to gather general information. To accomplish my goal, my tasks are to participate in all the crime investigations by going to the crime scenes and by being part of suspect or victim’s interviews. Also I will observe how detectives enter data on the system to find information on suspects and how they go by completing their cases. After completing my activities, my learning outcomes will be that I should be able to look up suspects to find their current locations and their background history, and I should know how to perform a successful interview, collect valuable evidence, and enter information on the case management to complete the case.
My second goal during the intermediate period is to find the major problem within the agency. In order to accomplish my objective, my tasks will include finding out how efficient the detectives are with their cases, and to speak with the lieutenant to find out what challenges the agency has encounter with criminal investigations. My learning outcomes are that I should be able to recognize the weakness within the unit and to start finding possible solutions to address such problems.
