The atomic bomb was a good decision to drop because is was used to minimize the number of casualties to both Americans and Japanese. Most Americans thought that the fighting was over, but “the war then projected to last through 1946, the longer term implications were clear to Truman and the others present: unless some means other than invasion were found to end the war, hundreds of thousands of Americans would die” (Hiroshima Revisited). Instead of going into war again Truman used the atomic bomb to end it, without question. This action helped to save many Americans. Another reason for why the bomb was dropped on Japan was because it was supposed to lower the number of casualties for the Americans. Even though most people thought, “the atomic bomb was horrific [...] the horror was not unrivaled, the 1937 Rape of Nanking, in which Japanese troops took the Nationalist Army headquarters city and then spent seven weeks killing up to 300,000 men, women and children by hand is arguably at least as horrific” (McNulty). …show more content…

and maybe even worst. If Truman did not drop the bomb, more people would have been killed fighting in the war than having the atomic bomb be dropped (Powers 21). This information supports the argument because without the dropping of the bomb, more Americans would have been killed overall. The horrific event that Japan had done to their citizens had shown only bits and pieces of what they would have done to the U.S. if they had not dropped the bomb (McNulty). Without this bomb, the United States would have been demolished if they had planned to attack us like they had done to their own citizens. Overall if Truman had not decided to drop the atomic bomb, the Americans would have lost many more lives while fighting and being attacked by Japan. Which in the end makes the bomb a very good
