During the attack on Pearl Harbor the U.S. was devastated and because of this the U.S. entered into World War Two. The attack on Pearl Harbor was disastrous, sunk many ships, and killed many people that lived in that area on the island. This allowed FDR (Franklin Delano Roosevelt, president at the time of Pearl Harbor) to enter the U.S. into World War 2. During the attack many ships were sunken, and which were these? Some of the ships that were sunken were the Helena and Raleigh. The Helena and Raleigh were light cruisers used for radar and light battles or even defense. (Like in the bombing of Pearl Harbor.) The Japanese used many aircraft carriers to launch somewhere around two-hundred airplanes to use torpedoes, dive bomb, or kamikaze, and to shoot anything else in their path, which did include other airplanes and ships that were trying to stop them. The Americans used their rifles which could have been a Springfield or an M-1 Garand, anti-aircraft guns that were mounted on the boats, and machine guns, which was also mounted to the sides of ships. While in the defense of Pearl Harbor, the U.S. was able to take down around thirty or so Japanese aircraft. Nearly seventy to eighty planes were damaged during the attack, and the Japanese even lost some of their submarines and submariners. Because of the casualties and the damage done to Pearl Harbor and its occupants, the citizens within the continental U.S. were shocked to find what had happened to them. They were determined to fight back until the Allies gained victory over the Axis Powers.
