Atticus Finch was a man of courage because he took on the case trial of Tom Robinson. Its courageous because many people wanted to see Tom Robinson dead. He didn’t back down even though it meant some people would look at him and his family differently. For it being in the 1930’s Atticus knew Tom wouldn’t get a fair trial. Atticus tried with all of his willpower to make sure the jury would see that Tom Robinson was an innocent man. Her and Jem are called racial slurs around the time of the trial. Atticus says that you have to stand in someone else’s shoes to see what they are going through. And by the end of the story Scout can put herself in Boo Radley’s shoes, the person she feared most throughout the story. Boo Radley shows a lot of courage at the end of the book when he saves the kids. He put his life on the line to save Jem and Scout. Courage has a meaning to everyone in their own way. And many have shown it in some sort of way. Either from standing up for someone or standing up for yourself. Too going out and playing a game knowing you’re going to lose. The definition of courage is “strength in the face of pain or grief.” I’m sure that anyone in the world has shown courage someway or another and can tell a story about it. Well one of my times of courage came my freshman year at Negaunee High School. It was our first game of the season against the Menominee Maroons.
