Obtaining a degree in the legal field leaves many students a wide path of careers to choose from. There are many types of lawyers and other occupations students are able to select as their careers. If the students have the correct education, skills, and attitude, the students will have an opportunity to shop around the work force in the legal field. Some options for students who have acquired the correct skill set and experience are an attorney general, a criminal defense attorney, or a paralegal. These careers are excellent careers, but they require hard work and determination. An attorney general is a very powerful and hard job to do. According to What Does an Attorney General Do? The type of duties the attorney general has is different for each state because states have different statutes. For example, the attorney general in Texas will have different issues than an attorney general in the state of Georgia. In the information from the Duties and Responsibilities of the Office of the Attorney General (2010, May 6), the attorney general is supposed to defend the laws and the Constitution of the State of Texas, solve public bond issues, and to represent Texas in litigation (Duties and Responsibilities of the Office of the Attorney General, para 1). These duties very similar to duties in different states, but the issues and the ways to solve the them can vary in other states. Also, if the Supreme Court calls a state to a case, the attorney general is responsible to speak for their state in front of the Supreme Court. For students who want to eventually become an attorney general, they have to have a very well rounded skill set, education, and experience.
