Automobile Mechanics Choosing a career isn’t as easy as it seems. Playing professional football was always my number one goal and dream career. The chances of playing professional football are getting smaller and smaller every year, but I always had a backup plan since I was a kid, too. If I didn’t make my football dream, I would be an automobile mechanic just like my dad and brother. Even if I did make it, I would become an automobile mechanic when I retired and would open my own auto body shop. After researching the career of an automobile mechanic, I have decided to pursue this career. Concerning typical daily tasks, automobile mechanics specialize in many areas. Automobile mechanics work in many areas on automobiles. For example, engines, brakes, transmission, fuel systems, and etc… Automobile mechanics also talk to customers and estimate the cost of the repair to the automobile. Automobile mechanics use power tools, machine tools, and hand tools based on the repair, such as jacks, hoists, and welding equipment(“Task List”1). I believe I would be able to handle these tasks, because I grew up around my dad’s auto body shop and I know how to use the proper tools. I could do the math to estimate the cost of the repair. Automobile mechanics analyze data and process information. Automobile mechanics control machines and processes, operate vehicles or mechanized equipment, and handle and move objects. Automobile mechanics also repair and maintain mechanical equipment, and inspect equipment, structures, and materials(“Common Work Activities”1). I believe that I could perform these common activities on a daily basis. I could operate the equipment and control the machines and processes. I could analyze the data and information.
