The Year the movie was shown was in 1990, there was an awakening on 1969 on the children who fell asleep for a longtime because of Encephalitis Lethargica.

Awakenings is a American drama film on 1990 which is based on Dr. Oliver Sacks book with the same title, the movie was about the true to life story of a British neurologist Oliver Sacks, which in the movie was named Malcolm Sayer (Robin Williams), who discovered in 1969 the effects of L-Dopa, a drug used on patients with Parkinson’s disease at that time, to the patients with Encephalitis lethargica, Leonard Lowe (Robert De Niro) and the other patients at the hospital awakened for the first time in their life.

It’s a story of a doctor in 1969 who worked at Bronx hospital with catatonic patients, and speculated that their sickness have a similarity to Parkinsonism, and used L-Dopa to treat them, thus awakening them from their deep slumber, Awakenings main characters are Robin Williams as Malcolm Sayer and Robert de Niro as Leonard Lowe.
