Awakenings. Awakenings is an emotion film that centered on heartwarming or upsetting elements. Besides, it awakens us the moral values, enhance our knowledge regarding symptoms of the disease, and the treatment as well as the effects of the treatment. The first thing is about attitude of Dr Malcolm Sayer, one of the main characters of the movie. He is an enthusiasm and thoughtful doctor. He has applied a job as clinical neurologist at a hospital in the Bronx. We know that the hospital hires him due to short-staffed not because of his experience. This is because his experience is all research with non-human subjects. Even though he has no experience at all but this does not stop him to do research on what he desires to examine. His positive attitude is what we should have which no experience is not a reason for us to stop learning. …show more content…

In the Bronx hospital, there are a group of catatonic patients which suffered from encephalitis (as known as sleeping sickness) since the 1920s or 1930s. According to the research, this disease is caused by a virus that attacked the brains and nervous systems of the people. The patients cannot make their bodies do what their minds desire and they have not spoken or understand anything that was going on around them. Everyone else has given up hope to the patients except Dr Sayer. He notices some of the patients have reflex reactions where they can respond in uncommon ways to certain stimuli such as catching a ball. He has determined to find out ways to improve the quality of his patients’ life more than just keep this mysterious group of patients
