Clashing Attitudes between Generations The mixture of four generations of workers is causing major problems in many businesses. The Baby Boomers and the Traditionalists want to work long hours, and Generation X and Y want a flexible work schedule. Boomers have a self-centered attitude because they are concerned with issues that affect them (Bannon, 2001). Generation X and Y will move on to another company if they do not obtain their way. It can be as small of an incident as they did not acquire a specific day off from work (Verschoor, 2013). The Matures and Boomers do not want to take days off from their jobs (Bannon, 2001). Generation Y’s core values are similar to that of the oldest generations, even though, they do not possess the same loyalty to company and hard work ethic as the Matures. Generation Y is the most likely to turn an employee in for committing a violation of the company’s policy. They would not want to do it face to face with a supervisor, but they would prefer to use an anonymous hotline to do so (Verschoor, 2013). …show more content…
Boomers want to work in teams and Generation Y is fine working in a team or not. X and Y Generations are the most accepting of the four when it comes to diversifications. They work well with different races, gays, and mentally challenged people (Bannon, 2001). Boomers have a hard time just accepting that the Millennials rely on resources such as the internet especially Google to help them (Yeaton, 2008). Boomers did not grow up during the time where a computer was their resource. They had to physically look up material from a book or other paper
