The battle started on June 4th, 1942 and lasted until June, 7th 1942 (“Battle of Midway”). the battle changes the whole course of the Pacific Theater. The Battle of Midway was able to show how powerful the United States Navy was. A small inexperienced navy was able to destroy a much larger and powerful navy.

A. I learned a lot of things while i watched the documentary on the MS-13s. They do a lot of things that i never knew people could do. There are so many members in this gang and everyone wants to be higher and higher up each day. A good term from our sociology book that i connected to the documentary was Competition. Competition in biology and sociology, is a contest between two or more organisms, animals, individuals, groups, etc., for territory, a niche, for a location of resources, for resources and goods, for mates, for prestige, for recognition, for awards, for group or social status, or for leadership.
This TV show is a comedic cartoon that follows a character named peter griffin. Though the show is crude and merciless at its attempt to wow its viewers with its Graphic and completely inappropriate comedy, it does entail quite the amount of sociological concepts however when watching the show they could be very easy to miss. Back to peter Griffin however. He has a son a daughter, a friend and a dog that I will be discussing. I chose these 5 characters because I believe that they each have their own sociological concept that ties to them.
The “Outsiders” made me think about the rules that groups give us are strongly founded on what they see as defiance. It made me think that some rules are given within a group are not remotely necessary and that we as a society are to blame for what is deemed as “socially acceptable”. Deviants may not even be actually deviants but that’s what they are labeled by society because they think, what the deviant did was wrong, which could be made up by what society thinks is okay behavior. The relation to this reading and the sociology course shows how society controls us and how they consider we should act. It reminded me of how society tells us as women that showing off our body parts is deemed as trashy and not lady like, but men can do so without
Sociological Perspectives are different perspectives of how to view the world. The three sociological perspectives are the functionalist theory, the conflict theory, and the interactionalist theory. Robert Merton and Emile Durkheim are considered to have founded functionalism. Functionalism emphasizes the way in which the parts of a society are structured to maintain its stability. Functionalists believe that all parts of society are linked together.
The three main Sociological Perspectives are Structural Functionalist, Social Conflict Theory, and Symbolic Interactionist, all of which are quite different but also similar in many ways. The study of sociology began when humans began to wonder about human social relationships and institutions during the nineteenth-century revolutions. As sociology has grown in popularity, many different sociologists have developed diverse perspectives on human social relationships and institutions. Structural functionalists study the existence of humans in society as part of sociology and many other social sciences such as relationships, institutions, and roles that make up a society. The main point of structural functionalists is that society works together to build structures and institutions such as education, family, economy, religion, and health care for them to evolve towards increased differentiation, where institutions become increasingly specialized in the functions they perform.

All of a sudden, I found myself thinking sociologically when I was watching the movie “Mean Girls,” because it reminded me of the cliques and peer groups that were in my old high school. The movie is about a teenage girl who ends up becoming a part of this clique full of mean girls and after an incident she sets out to try and ruin the leader of the clique’s life. It was the cliques and peer groups that made me start thinking sociologically, because it made me look back and see how much I have changed since I came to the University of Kentucky, and left my old clique or peer group behind. In my sociology class I learned that a peer group is a “group of individuals who are often around the same age and are linked by common interests and orientations.”

American History X is about an old brother and younger brother relationship and how one person has the ability to influence the other in a big way. Derek Vinyard, who is the older brother and Danny Vinyard, the younger brother, both live in a white supremacist mentality passed down by their father at an early age through racist comments and stereotypes. Their white supremacist ideology results in the imprisonment of Derek when he murders an African American rival when he attempt to steal his car.

Perspective is a chosen approach that can be used to study any subject in the field of sociology. These perspectives highlight the diverse methods an individual selects to analyze a theme and how they perceive the society in general. Three sociological perspectives include functionalist, conflict and interactionist perspectives (Thompson, Hickey, & Thompson, 2016, p. 2). Throughout this paper, I examine how we analyze the role of television from the functional, conflict, and interactionist approaches. Functionalist perspective on a macro-sociological level places far more emphasis on “the collective life or communal existence than on the individual” (Thompson, Hickey, & Thompson, 2016).
