Batman versus Joker. Harry Potter versus Voldemort. Darth Vader versus Luke Skywalker. Superman versus Lex Luthor. These are all classic hero versus villain matchups where everyone roots for the brave, selfless hero and despises the up-to-no-good, destructive villain. But is Lex Luthor really evil, or is he just trying to protect his planet from what he sees as a foreign invader? Voldemort was raised an orphan in an orphanage where nobody ever showed him love. He sees power as the only way to get things accomplished. Is this evil, or is he putting into action what he learned growing up? Redeker came up with a plan to save the country, but that plan included sacrificing a large part of the population in order to protect the portion of citizens he deemed were worth saving. Therefore, the public sees Redeker as a despicable human being who “’lots of people out there want to send him to hell” (Brooks 75). The fact that Redeker saved the country is nowhere to be found in the reasoning of many citizens’ opinion of the man. Upon deeper investigation, Redeker’s plan is not so evil. The first statement the author makes about planning for the undead epidemic is “there was no way to save everyone” (Brooks 73). So regardless the plan, people were going to die. In fact, trying to save everyone could have resulted in nobody surviving. Redeker’s plan was monstrous in the aspect of knowingly sacrificing thousands of people. However, Redeker wanted to keep them well supplied and well defended to give them the best chance of survival to fight off the zombies (Brooks 73). In order to save the country, there was a small population that would have to be put in a safe area to survive. People view Redeker as a monstrous man because of what they think were his motives behind what he chose to do, but realistically his plan was the best decision for the
