Baylor Coach The article published May 28, 2016, by Mark Schlabach on ESPN titled, “Baylor to fire coach Art Briles after 8 Seasons,” is about Sixty-year-old Art Briles in the process of finishing his extension of his ten-year contract for coaching football at Baylor University. He had eight years left of that ten-year contract until he messed his whole career up. He was making almost $6 million each season and that would have made him the Big 12’s highest paid coach. Briles was fired along with several other members of the schools program when an investigation found that they failed to address sexual assault allegations against football players. During his time as a coach, back in 2015 he had two players who had been sentenced to jail after …show more content…

Later, Briles recruited two of the players after they had already been kicked off the football team. There was evidence that Briles along with other members of the program let the teammates rape girls. They never disciplined, never told anyone, but the word got out. When a female athlete came up to Briles and mentioned that she had been raped by one of the football players Briles chose not to tell any of the higher-ups and to just let it go. The girl didn’t want to report it to the police so she only told Briles and her coach about the situation. Neither of them did anything about it. In class, we have talked in to very good depth about the Title IX. The investigator found that the school’s efforts in implement Title IX were arranged, slow, and obstruct by a lack of engagement and support by senior leadership. Baylor University complies with Title IX, which doesn’t allow discrimination, sexual violence, or sexual harassment. Art Biles failed to follow this by not doing something about his player raping another female athlete. Briles is trying to find another coaching job at the moment but I do not think he needs another opportunity to coaching. If he becomes a coach again, the issue is still going to be on the fore front of every one’s minds, no one will like him. He will always be looked down on from here on out. When Briles was interviewed afterwards he said, “There were some bad things that happened under my watch," Briles said. "And for that, I'm sorry. I was wrong. I'm sorry. I'm going to learn. I'm going to get better.” The fact that he can admit that bad things happened under his watch, he knew they were bad and let them continue is just so sad. Briles also tried to blame policies and lack of training for how unquestionable incidents were handled. In the end, he just needs to take the blame and stop
