In the 60’s there were many bands, groups and solo artists that had various impacts on society. The 1960’s was a generation like no other. Social and cultural change were being demanded by young Americans and music was used to express themselves. Rock and Pop music had gained a lot of popularity by the late 1950’s but many Americans disapproved of these styles of music because they were viewed as often too sexual and against moral values.
Two notable groups from the 1960’s are The Jackson 5 and The Beatles. The Beatles were a group from Liverpool, United Kingdom and they were introduced to the United States in February 1964 on The Ed Sullivan Show. They performed on live TV in front of an estimated 73 million Americans the largest audience of its time. The impact on the music industry was huge and the Beatles began breaking records left and right, some of which stand to this day.
