People seem to think that sending their kids to college is the best way for them to become successful in today’s society, do you ? Honestly it’s important to be guided down the right path when it comes down to where they may decide to go and what’s best for their future. This is where college admission counselors come into play. Organizing campus tours, classroom visits, or information sessions for potential students, analyzing and ranking college applications, and visiting high schools or college fairs for recruitment reasons are just a few of the duties. To become a college admissions counselor you must, earn a bachelor's degree, try to maintain one or multiple internships. This helps build your networking within your circle and helps you expand your name to others that may help you gain more experience. Lastly, try to seek job openings. Find out if they have any opportunities if you previously interned in the admissions office of your alma mater. Given that you already have relevant expertise and a connection to the company's staff, this office could be the best spot to begin your search. Otherwise, you can search for entry-level positions in the admissions departments of other colleges and universities. I didn’t really have much on hand help that I wished I had. Also, me being a first generation college student didn’t help much either. My parents did everything they could to get me as much information as possible, but in all honesty it was only so much they could do. I have always appreciated everything they have done to get me here, but I had to figure out my college selection primarily on my own. To add some additional context, this is my first year at A&T. I’m officially a transfer student. After highschool I knew that I wanted to dip into the college route to discover more about my passion for psychology. When looking over my choices for where I could be I tried doing research and finding which had the best benefits. I ended up picking a school that wasn’t the best option for me, made me realize that in the end that I didn’t belong there and I felt very out of place. Deciding to leave that school and make my way to A&T was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Throughout this year, I have never felt more wanted and respected at a school since being here. Going down this path helped me understand why college admission counselors are essential for guiding students to a college they want to be
