I remember the first time I heard about the job, Physical Therapist. I was in 11th Grade, sitting in class, searching up various health related occupations. I then saw Physical Therapist, after reading the job description, I was wondering how this could become my future career. When I saw that Physical Therapist, also known as PTs, work with patients to help them regain movement and manage pain. I knew that I wanted this to be my future job due to the reason that I loved helping people. I also wanted to become a Physical Therapist because they helped many people within my family. PTs helped make my great-grandmother improve her walking and helped my dad recover from many hand injuries. One has to have the ability to stay positive during all situations, they have to “redirect negative thoughts, and focus on what’s working” (Ankota n. pag). As explained in the Ankota article, if a Physical Therapist knows how to keep a positive attitude then they will be able to keep the patient calm under any circumstance. Being well-rounded can also help further one’s success in Physical Therapy. A well-rounded PT is important because they have the intelligence to “design programs that connect therapy to functional and meaningful goals” (Ankota n. pag). This can be helpful for the patient due to the fact that the exercises a PT assigns can be more effective because of a certain injury and may help the patient meet all of their required goals. According to Ankota, a Physical Therapist also has to be a caring doctor to make the patient feel comfortable around them. If one is caring then the patient “will listen to your advice, return for follow-ups, say good things about you, be less likely to sue you” (Ankota n.
