A wise man by the name of Confucius once said, “Choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life.” One’s interests play an enormous role in what he or she decides to do when searching for a career. I have a love for helping people and caring about their needs. A PTA (Physical Therapy Assistant) is a fascinating career that I would like to pursue. A physical therapy assistant is an aide that works under the direction and supervision of physical therapists. They guide patients who are recovering from injuries and illnesses and manage pain. Both of my grandmothers had to have physical therapy; one with her rotator cuff and one with her back. I visited the therapy center with them a few times and got to see what happens there. As a bystander observing others on exercise bikes and working with arm straps expanded my understanding on how physical therapy is handled. I also learned that there are private rooms for people who need massages to ease pain and I thought that was interesting. In the fall of 2015, my mom also had back surgery. Afterward, she had approximately thirty-five physical therapy sessions to help ease her discomfort. I attended a few of these sessions at Marden Rehab in Woodsfield, Ohio, with her. I learned several hands-on exercises and techniques from watching the physical therapist and helped my mom at home with those. These visits were helpful in learning about the field at a young age. Also, the hands-on learning tactics make my choice easier and clearer that physical therapy will be a job I will love. As a senior, I am studying two courses that will prepare me to be a physical therapy assistant. One of those classes is Anatomy and it is my favorite class that I’ve ever taken. I love learning about the human body and every different part that makes it up. My short, quick-witted teacher, Mr. Cicogna, is a terrific example of why I will have the ability to excel in this career. He is preparing me for the kinds of issues I will face and how life will be in the real world. He is an outstanding mentor. I have maintained a B+ average in the class so far and I am fascinated with all the material we have covered. The other class I am enrolled in is called Sports Medicine and is taught by a different teacher by the name of Mr. Bennett. The laid-back and jokeful man is preparing me for wrapping and taping injured parts of the body. Additionally, I am learning how muscles work within the body. I have also have kept my grade in this class a B thus far. Both of these courses are helping me understand what I will be dealing with when I obtain a job. They have provided me for the types of injury recoveries and rehabilitation skills I will need to use at my job. I will have the ability to change countless lives because of these two men and what they have taught
