A Physical Therapist Assistant works everywhere such as offices, hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, homes, schools, and fitness centers. The Job outlook from 2014-2024 will grow 40% over the years. The projection is faster than the average than any other job. A PTA makes about $45,290 per year and $21.77 per hour but wages change due to degree, year of experience, location, and time. We are living in a generation where humans live longer and the demand of PTA is high.
One of the reasons I want to become an Occupational Therapist Assistant is to help people who have been diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome. Albert Einstein once said “Everybody is a genius, but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” People with Asperger’s syndrome are often misjudged because of their “disabilities.” Symptoms of Aspergers: There are several different symptoms that are shown when a person has Asperger’s Syndrome. Not all people with Asperger’s Syndrome have all of the symptoms, but they do have some.
I am looking forward to studying in this field. I hope that I can get in this program and be successful in the future. I will submit all requirement documents and finish all prerequisite classes. I will be proud, if I receive an acceptance letter from PTA program at Cerritos College.
In Physical Therapy the Physical Therapist and Physical Therapist Assistant teach their patients and clients things that range between information, materials regarding certain things and also methods. The different types of instructional methods that are commonly used during interactions with the patients and clients are discussions, demonstrations, presentations, lectures, return demonstrations, illustrations of written informations and audiovisual materials or web-based learning methods. A pro to the different instructional methods are there are several so if someone does not learn from one there are many others they can try. A con is the patient may not do good with any of these methods or if it involves technology, the elderly might not
To investigate the role of a physician assistant, I have completed thorough research along with discussion with physician assistants at the Rhode Island and Miriam Hospital. From researching I have learned that they work under supervision and responsibility of an attending physician. However, they have several independent duties that are extremely important to healthcare. They are experts in general medicine and take an important position in diagnosing, treating, and prescribing medicine to patients. Physician assistants receive education and go through clinical rotations involving several different departments.
I have known for years that I wanted to work in the realm of health science. I knew that I wanted to do something in sports medicine. When I took a deeper look into sports medicine I learned that there are many areas of sports medicine that you can get licensed in and that the sports medicine part would be a specialty to attach to it. So I took the list as started to look through it at each job that plays an affect in the sport medicine area. I narrowed in on Physical Therapy and then took the time to do some shadowing in it for my senior study.
Pediatrics is what I plan to specialize in. I have always been interested and fascinated with babies and toddlers. There will be many benefits to becoming a Physician Assistant that will outweigh the negatives of the additional academic workload. Getting the BSN degree upfront, will eliminate some of the prerequisite classes that are needed for the Physical Assistant program. The Physician Assistant requirements, are a minimum 2-3 years of R.N. on the job experience, along with additional (minimum) 3 years of schooling to achieve a master’s degree.
She said in her interview, “I have learned how difficult it is to get through school. Also, I have learned how great of a job it is. I can choose different specialties to work in the field.” It is extremely tough to get into PA school. Becoming a Physician Assistant is so competitive that a 4.0-grade point average in college may not even be enough to get accepted, but having it certainly helps.
If I had been asked at age 16 where I saw myself in ten years, I wouldn’t have known what to say. I have always been a driven person, but not always a person with a definite sort of direction. As a child, I wanted to be it all. I wanted to be a veterinarian, an astronaut, a musician, a teacher, everything.
Personal Statement I am thrilled to have found my passion for physical therapy and I appreciate the opportunity to be able apply for the Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program at Whatcom. In high school my first job was at a Physical Therapist office at 17 years of age. I worked as an aide, assisting patients through exercises and setting up patients on modalities. Being a student athlete, I realized the importance of physical therapy due to sport injuries and prevention of such injuries. After high school I continued my education and worked at local Therapist offices.
School that is all I know for now, taking baby steps that will lead me to take a big step with my life. Hoping that just focusing on living and being open to new ideas will help me to the path that is destined for me. For the future I know that as long as I have the desire to continue my education I can find the right career path for myself and that I will find myself in the process. One of the hardest things to admit to myself and others is that I don’t know what my purpose is. Although, when I say that I am wrong, I do know what my purpose is.
I see myself professionally five years from now as an educator leading an organization that provides services to children with disabilities that helps them discover their strengths and creates a positive vision for their future careers. My interest in Special Education goes back to the time when I was 2nd year High school. Since I was studying in a catholic school, we were required to join various outreach programs. At a young age, I was already exposed to the life outside the prestigious school. I used to teach unfortunate children in a squatter area.
After graduating from high school I plan to attend Lamar University in the Fall of 2016 and start working on my degree in physical therapy. I chose physical therapy as my career because it is a path I see myself enjoying and is a good way to give back to others by helping them overcome their disabilities. Many people tend to select a major that is lucrative, regardless if they feel passionately about their choice or not. I personally would rather go to work every day loving what I do, as opposed to dreading every minute of my job. Physical therapy is the most suitable occupation for me because of my own past experiences with injuries and various aspects about the field that can carry me through my career.
At all of these clinics and hospitals I have learned a variety of techniques, while completing the fundamentals of cleaning, organizing work area, securing patients with therapy equipment and motivating patients. Having to work under different physical therapists has shown me how to assist licensed physical therapists efficiently from their long hours of hard work. These educational experiences have taught me to go above and beyond my dreams and to expand my
As a professional, one must adhere to the guiding principles defined by the professional association. Scope of Practice outlines the “notions of professional conduct, accountability and self- governance and expanded practice”. Scope of Practice summarizes “the range of roles and activities an individual registrant or licensee is permitted to undertake in the course of professional practice. These roles and activities are largely determined by professional education and practice competence along with factors in the practice context, such as demands on practitioners’ services and available resources” (Fealy 2005). Scope of Practice is based upon the “profession 's unique body of knowledge, supported by educational preparation, a body of evidence, and existing or emerging practice frameworks” (American Physical Therapy Association, 2015).
