If I had been asked at age 16 where I saw myself in ten years, I wouldn’t have known what to say. I have always been a driven person, but not always a person with a definite sort of direction. As a child, I wanted to be it all. I wanted to be a veterinarian, an astronaut, a musician, a teacher, everything. Many of the things I have accomplished since then would not have even crossed the mind of my younger self. Luckily, through the guidance I received at Temple University, I was able to mold my motivation into a purpose.
Growing up with anxiety issues made thinking about the future in a positive manner nearly impossible. I was always thinking about what was going to go wrong and things that were far beyond my control, when I should have been thinking about all that I could do to ensure my success. At Temple University, I was surrounded by a network of likeminded, motivated individuals. I was able to take classes relevant to my interests and get involved in organizations that I truly cared about. The education and direction I received at Temple allowed me to find an internship at a company I loved, which eventually developed into my first full-time job. Since graduation, I have become fluent in Spanish, German and Mandarin Chinese. I am currently working my dream job at a multinational corporation where I am able to travel frequently for work, yet always find my way back to Philadelphia. I no longer struggle with anxiety because I no longer have anything to be anxious about. Every fear I overcame in college only led to success and to a greater understanding of myself. Had I never transferred to Temple, I may have never had the cultural experience of living in a big city that led to so much of who I am today. My ability to set daily goals, organize my thoughts and fully engage myself in whatever project I am involved with are all directly related to the education I gained at Temple
