As a result of other’s efforts and funding, I have been able to attend Howard University and embark in one of the most memorable and resourceful experiences of my life. I have made genuine friendships, taken part in unforgettable experiences, and worked hard to achieve a GPA of 3.88 all within my first three semesters of college. Although, my college experience is going fantastic thus far, I hope to enhance it even more through studying abroad in Barcelona, Spain. My goals for studying abroad are to have a greater understanding of the Spanish language as opposed to solely the Latin perspective that has been taught to me in all of my past Spanish courses, to become a more self-reliable young adult, and to increase my cultural competence. I am choosing to apply for the study abroad program in Barcelona, Spain because I appreciate the city’s rich history as well as its beauty. As a child, I lost my father to cancer; it was primarily a result of others volunteered time and donations that allowed my mother the opportunity to get back on her feet and become the sole provider of our household.
