According to the American Occupational Therapy Association. “Transitions or movements occur throughout an individual’s life. Each person navigates through different life stages, settings, and situations.” Based on personal beliefs and assumptions, transitions can have a positive or negative impact (). Change is interrelated to circumstances, people, and the environment (). A transition that I recently experienced was the end of a major relationship. In order to succeed in life, individuals need to learn and grow from their transitions.
There is always this one person in our life whom we share everything with. For me it was my ex- boyfriend who I had known for over 6 years. He was the only one that I sincerely connected to on every level. I had just returned from my vacation in India and was excited to share the details of the trip with him. As a daughter, I realized the importance of my father’s teachings and used them to overcome this transformation. He taught me to be a strong woman and never let the challenges in life get to you. As a friend, I realized the importance of the people who truly cared about me. Despite of being selfish, I received their unconditional love and support throughout that time.
The transition undoubtedly impacted my occupations in a negative aspect. As an employee, I failed to focus on my tasks because my mind often wandered to that one person. Insomnia and stress took over my ability to succeed. Additionally, this roller coaster of emotions forced me to push people away from my life. My identity changed dramatically as a sister and a daughter. I withdrew from family interactions and disengaged myself from my surroundings.
