Since I was a child, I always strived to reach my goals and ambitions. As I have gone through my high school, undergraduate, and graduate classes I have encountered many roadblocks and have experienced maturation in my character. Prior to attending my undergraduate institution, I received a full scholarship from the Gates Millennium Scholar Program that was a key factor in facilitating me to reach my goals. Going through my undergraduate studies I searched for ways that will further develop skills that I believe, will aid me as a student and as a physician. I eventually began to shadow a physician, volunteer at a hospital, and joined medical related organizations. Shadowing in particular made the biggest impact on my growth in character and abilities. It helped me develop the ability of observation and acute attention to detail. The Pediatrician I shadowed taught me many things integral to providing quality care to patients. In order to provide proper care for a patient, a medical provider must work hard to form good rapport, understand the symptoms, and come up with a diagnosis despite difficulties or complications. Growing up in the city of Miami, a cultural melting pot, it would not have been unusual to be in a class with children of varying cultures and ethnicities. I was a bit wary seeing so many different faces at once, but eventually as the days passed by I learned to adjust. Being small children, it wasn’t difficult to find something ordinary to bond over like our favorite Saturday cartoons or the newest trading card game. Building relationships with such a diverse group of people at such a young age sprouted my ability to collaborate and work with people of contrasting backgrounds, cultures, and
