Susan Eaton’s work, The Children in Room E4, shows the racial and economic segregation that is very prominent in Hartford, Connecticut. Stemming from the availability of jobs and the housing market, Hartford has turned into the segregated city it currently is today. Especially in Hartford’s urban schools, economic and racial segregation is the constant truth that lurks in every corner, over every teacher’s shoulder, in every student’s face. This ugly truth has resulted in an unequal educational system between schools that are only miles away. Though the state has been made aware of the unequal opportunities between urban and suburban schools, little change has been seen to benefit the children of Hartford.

I feel like I coped incredibly well with this during the activity as I was able to give the correct amount of help needed for each individual. As previously mentioned the first case study analysed in this essay is ‘Challenging Behaviour’ which focuses on Ben, aged 7, who has recently moved into the area. Two issues of inclusion regarding Ben, according to the case study, is that he is aggressive towards other pupils which can lead to high levels of disruption. One reason for this could be due to the fact that Ben spends the majority of his time with family, who are older, and at school he spends time with younger children. Evidence is shown in the case study as it mentions his two older secondary school aged sisters and that after school he goes to his grandparents until his mum finishes work. It goes on further to mention that he plays with younger children during play-times.
The Grapes of Wrath, a novel by John Steinbeck, follows an Oklahoma family during the Great Depression. We follow the Joads, a family of dustbowl farmers who have been evicted from their land, must travel west in order to survive. Throughout the novel, the Joads continue to fall apart and tested on their integrity. John Steinbeck shows the importance of unity and humanity in this troubling time of class division. In order to contribute a positive relationship it is essential to demonstrate and model an effective communication skill when dealing with children which means that considering both how the practitioner approach other people and responding the children. It is effectively more likely to communicate information to one another if having a positive relationship. Effective communication plays an important role in developing positive relation with children, young people and adults. what happened is that one child kicked his friends, bit them, and hit them through playing time. Then, the teacher took the child to the cozy corner, and said to him I am sad that you hit your friend. Every child has the ability to learn and develop. Having high expectations is especially important in achieving better outcomes for the most vulnerable children. During this developmental interview, I chose to conduct an observation/interview study with my one of my cousin’s child. This child is a 4 year old girl and will be identified as “child K” in relation to her first name. Her parents had no problem letting me interview her, but I had them stay in the same room as us. The purpose of this interview was to observe the child’s physical, cognitive, and socioemotional development. I observed her behavior and gave her several tests to show how well she has progressed.
