While creating this Behavior Change Plan for Joseph, it was important to look into each aspect of his life. By documenting the different behavior challenges throughout the set period of time, we were able to connect with the true issues Joseph was having. After reading over them, it was clear that Joseph’s main struggle was to stay on task. When we graphed the data, it showed that his highest form of distraction was his escape. The operational definition of the targeted behavior was, “The student frequently leaves his seat to ask the teacher questions, get a drink of water and sharpen his pencils. The one I was the most impressed with would be creating a structured routine for Joseph. He would respond well to the opportunity to know what to expect out of the day. This goes into Joseph’s first goal, “Given a structured routine, Joseph will be able to stay on task during class for 30 minute increments 4/5 days as evaluated by the classroom teacher using a tally chart.” Under this goal, he will be encouraged to stay on task because he will be challenged by a day chart. Joseph will look forward to marking of assignments on his chart. His second goal was, “Given different opportunities to do a quick job for the class, Joseph will increase his time spent in class and participation for three out of the five days of class as evaluated by all classroom teachers weekly.” Joseph would find different “tasks” to keep him away from his homework. By providing specific tasks, he will look forward to his chance to get up and do something. The final goal would be, “Given a more cohesive class group and environment, Joseph will improve his participation by completing his task in the group when the project comes up as evaluated by all classroom teachers quarterly.” Joseph desires attention.
