Qn1) Behaviour management techniques refers to the techniques used by teachers to handle the different behaviours displayed by children in class. The identified techniques that the teacher and assistant teacher used were, non-verbal messages, planned or tactical ignoring, explicit redirection and proximity and body language. The first technique we had observed from the assistant teacher was the implementation of non-verbal messages. As seen in the video during 1:06 and 6:10, whenever the assistant teacher saw Tosh playing with the slides, she will point stare at him intensely, wanting him to sit properly and pay attention. This technique was ineffective. This was because Tosh was not affected by her actions as he only refocused for a few moments before repeating his disruptive behaviour. The advantage of this technique is that the message brought across will be succinct, making the child fully understand what is the expected behaviour. It will also allow the child to refocus quickly, drawing back his attention to the task given. In addition, utilising a calm tone while giving out an instruction may help in calming the child down, making him comply with the instructions more readily.

There are also a few limitations to this technique. As this technique is teacher centred, there is a higher chance of intrusion. Therefore, other children who are not the main target of the technique may be distracted by the comment that the teacher was making. Additionally, the child would only behave momentarily due to the lack of consequences enforced. Explicit redirection enables the child to clearly understand the expectations of the teacher. At the same time, it allows the children to self-regulate as they will be more aware of the behaviours that are acceptable and encouraged in the
