Belonging In High School

When I first started my high school career, I was engulfed with fear. The fear that I would not fit it, the fear that everyone would think I was awkward, and most of all the fear of not doing well in my classes. Before I knew it, all the stuff I was taught about puberty in elementary school would come to pass. I was never really the most social person, sadly, most of the time I struggle with social anxiety, this made it really hard for me socialize and make new friends. I had never really had a clique or a legitimate group of friends whom I would spend the majority of my time with, I typically just worked as often as I could because my family owns a restaurant, so instead of practicing socializing skills with friends, I practiced management …show more content…

The whole thing changed when this guy I know that I had previously hung out with once or twice named Sean O’Neill moved into my neighborhood, and over time the amount of time I would hang out with him would increase exponentially, and before I knew it I had a legitimate clique, rather than a staff of employees. It was my first real sense of belonging in high school. In my opinion, that and a few other experiences made me the college applicant I am today. Speaking of which, the fact that I am already applying to college petrifies me! The fact that it felt like not even a day ago I was a freshman in high school, now I am in the latter half of my high school experience. Albeit if I am being completely honest, I feel as I am fully prepared for any challenge that may present itself in the years to come. I actually encourage taking these challenges head on, I would rather deal with them head on than run away from them, because if you run long enough, you are bound to become weary and those problems will catch up to you. It is inevitable. With that being said, as of now, getting into college is my most momentous challenge, and I have never been more excited to prevail over this challenge.
