Ben E. Keith’s competitive advantage relies on distributing food and beverages that are of the highest quality and value to the customer. This competitive advantage, however, can be improved in a number of ways to ensure that they remain a key player in the industry. When asked how this competitive advantage is being improved upon internally, we were informed that a few strategies are in place to be rolled out over the next several months that, unfortunately, could not be revealed to the public at this time. As expected, not much details were shared of future plans, however, one interesting detail was given. Ben E Keith currently distributes products to 11 states with a current emphasis on the south and south eastern portion of the country. Although they offer strong competition in these markets, we feel that the most important initiative at this time for Ben E Keith would be to branch out their operations to service other portions of the nation that may be otherwise dominated by one competitor. To better compete with its main competitor Sysco, Ben E. Keith’s plan should be to gradually expand its network of customers in other states, opening new distribution centers and acquiring success driven employees in the process. Ben E Keith can compete in these new markets by differentiating themselves from the competition by highlighting their commitment to punctual deliveries, competitive pricing, and having the internal resources capable of fulfilling orders more efficiently and even obtaining products not offered by the competition.
