Drew Da Dogs, Moose, and Beaver. Oh My! Do dogs smile? Author Gary Paulsen, in his memoir Winterdance, uses symbol, theme, and metaphors to further the reader’s understanding of the dog-human relationship. Paulsen lives in Minnesota, he decides to starts running dogs on a trapline.
The movie The Longest Yard is a comedy movie about a ex pro football star, going to prison and beating a corrupt prison in a football game. But if you really analyze the movie, it gives you an in depth of culture, race, and stereotypes in prison. The Longest Yard portrays the themes of redemption and teamwork through the story of a disgraced former NFL player who leads a group of inmates to challenge the prison guards in a football game, ultimately discovering the power of unity and sacrifice in achieving a greater goal. The first subtopic I'm going to analyze is stereotypes.
Lulu Asselstine Mrs. Olsen LA 8 5 November, 2017 Stereotypes and Perspectives When looking at a bunch of bananas in a grocery store, people tend to choose the perfect spotless bananas, since stereotypically food that is perfect looking, with no flaws, taste better. However, people soon realize that when you start to eat bananas that have more spots and are imperfect they turn out to be sweeter and better. This connects to stereotypes because people who follow stereotyped will always eat the perfect bananas; however, people who choose to look through another perspective can realize that the imperfect bananas are better. This connects to The Outsiders because Ponyboy realizes this after he talks with two Socs, kids from a rival group named Randy and Cherry. In The Outsiders, S.E Hinton presents the idea that teenagers can break through stereotypes if they look at life through another perspective; as shown in the book when Ponyboy starts to talk to Cherry and Randy and realizes the stereotypes about them are false.
Society is built upon a grand scale of assumptions and misunderstandings, all of which tend to lead us in a path for the worst. There is, however, a remedy for our seemingly infinite list of problems that lead us to war, hate, and unrest. Unfortunately, this remedy is not very likely to be found because we have not been looking in the right places, which happen to be right beneath our noses. You see, we as a society have spent our lives writing books, directing movies, and painting murals, and yet we have overlooked our own genius; Footloose, The Breakfast Club, and Dirty Dancing. These three movies all share a common thread, and it’s not their epic soundtracks and classic ending scenes.
Seeing Through the Fog S. E Hinton stereotyped most of her characters in the book The Outsiders. She took advantage of doing this, for us to grasp major takeaways throughout the novel and for our minds to always gyrate with new information. Most characters have a strong disliking for the other group, although certain characters can see through the fog of each other's actions, and always remove the negatives and bring out the positives. The Greasers and The Socs are discrete in many ways. Both groups are treated differently mostly based on their appearances, lifestyle, and wealth.
Lastly, Tiny Soderball was a hired immigrant just alike Lena. Tiny was always getting in trouble with the men so all of the other citizens looked at her differently. Tiny did not settle with that and she then decided to travel to Alaska and take part in the Gold Rush. Tiny opened up her own hotel and grew a fortune. Lena, Ántonia, and Tiny go against the traditional female role, they maintain their independence and they take risks causing them to end up very successful.
For people living in the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) community, hiding in a “the closet” is very common in hiding their true identities. Extreme precaution is taken to help prevent exposing themselves to friends and family until the time is right for them. Then, when someone is finally ready to reveal their true selves they must deal with the reactions of everyone they tell. This process is highlighted in the American sitcom The Golden Girls, a show highlighting the lives of four women after retirement and living in their “golden years”. The episode “Scared Straight” (1988) highlight the relationship between Blanche and her younger brother Clayton-
Stereotyping is an issue that affects all ages, genders, and races. Not all stereotypes are bad, but when you maliciously stereotype it becomes a problem. In S.E. Hinton’s young adult novel The Outsiders, stereotyping is a significant issue. There are two gangs in this novel, the “greasers”, and the “Socs”. The greasers live on the east side and are known as “hoods”.
On September 20, 1984, the Cosby Show made airways and forever changed the general population views on gender roles and race on television. Shows in the 1980s and 1970s were still perpetuated outdated gender stereotypes and televise them, for the American audience to perceive as “normal”. The Cosby Show went against the typical gender and racial stereotypes of African Americans on television. The show reshapes the four basic elements of gender stereotypes such as personality traits, domestic behaviors, occupations, and physical appearance” (“Gender Roles and Stereotypes”). The episode “Back to school”, The school season has begun and each of the children is having a different perspective on the school they attended.
Annotated Bibliography Introduction: Examine different kinds of advertisements and the problem at hand with how they perpetuate stereotypes, such as; gender, race, and religion. Thesis: The problem in society today is in the industry of social media. In efforts to attract the eye of the general population, advertising companies create billboards, commercials, flyers and other ads with stereotypes that are accepted in today’s society. Because of the nations’ cultural expectation for all different types of people, advertisement businesses follow and portray exactly what and how each specific gender, race, or religion should be.
“You know my name, not my story. You've heard what I've done, but not what I've been through,” wrote Jonathan Anthony Burkett in his book Neglected But Undefeated. This ideology is the basis of misjudgement. People jump to conclusions based on stereotypes, what they see in the moment, and what they have heard. If taken too far, a misinterpretation of one’s character can lead to them losing everything.
David Khari Webber Chappelle is an African-American comedian who started his stand up comedy career when he was just a freshman in high school. Even at an early age, Chappelle's brand of humor was controversial. Chappelle has always talked about the US’s Criminal Justice System. But in Chappelle’s more recent work he has started to talk about policing and the relationship between law enforcement and the communities they police. Chappelle uses his jokes as a way to attack a bigger problem in America.
The stereotypes of racial and gender is essential in mediation as mass media can use it to create more ‘facts’ to increase their circulation, and stir up discussion. Audiences are easy to spot them in the entertainment media. In the aspect of racial stereotype, countries and racial groups will be represented in certain way which is stereotypical. The media enlarges and exaggerates one characteristic of the targeted group in spite of there are also other characteristics the group of people have.

If you have never heard about “Modern Family," you have never seen comedy. Modern Family is an American television show that portrays the ‘Modernism’ in families nowadays in America.
Commercials are part of our everyday lives. Therefore, it is no surprise that companies would take advantage of advertisements to show off their products in an appealing way. In fashion commercials, with products ranging from clothing to make-up to shampoo and body spray, it is common that we usually see a man or a woman that is half-naked, portrayed as “sexy”. It is all about the appeal. Now if those commercials had a cast of unattractive, not-so-slim men or women, would we look at that commercial the same way?
