EFFECT OF BHASTRIKA PRANAYAMA ON PFR IN WHEEING PATIENTS: Abstract Topic:Effect of bhastrika pranayama on peak flow rate in wheezing patients Aim:To measure the peak flow rate of wheezing patients . Introduction :Bhastrika pranayama called the breath of fire involves forceful inhalation and exhalation thereby helping our body in getting a rich supply of oxygen . Wheezing is simply due to narrowing or inflammation of airways. This pranayama may be helpful for those suffering from respiratory problems by supplying surplus oxygen to lungs. Thereby helping to restore normal peak flow rate. Materials and methods: 30 wheezing Patients were selected and were divided into two groups. Group 1 : 15 patients not performing bhastrika pranayama …show more content…
Upon comparing these, the peak flow rate of group 2 patients were statistically significant. This significance infers that bhastrika pranayama helps in reducing the severity of wheezing. This pranayama also is helpful in bronchial dilation thereby increasing the oxygen supply in our body. Although this may not be the permanent solution for wheezing but this for sure makes this condition of wheezing little better too. This significant value proves the positive effect of bhastrika pranayam in wheezing patients. Thus, bhastrika pranayama may relieve wheezing patients from long term medications. Considering the facts regarding bhastrika pranayama and its clinical significance it can be opined that regular practice of bhastrika pranayama will help us in maintaining the oxygen balance in our body, thereby helps in reducing the severity of wheezing. This result is also similar to other studies of McFadden , Nagrathna et al.,and Goyeche et al.,where improvements were observed after yogic techniques[22-23]. Conclusion The mean value of peak flow rate is statistically significant for group 2 patients. This proves that the peak flow rate increases with the regular practise of bhastrika pranayama. Thus it can be inferred that the effect of bhastrika pranayama is entirely effective and positive on wheezing
