914 Words4 Pages

For years scientist have been researching and debating whether the earth is young or old. This study has lead churches to split and many people confused what is the true theory. Young earth views and old earth views are both highly regarded theories, but they differ in many significant ways.
The old earth view believes that the earth is around 4.5 billion years old. To determine the age of the earth scientist often dates the rocks, a problem with this is that all the oldest rocks have been destroyed in when the plates where moving. Old earth creationist believe that the earth was formed at the same time as all the other planets in our solar system so they have begun dating moon rocks, and meteorites. Meteorites are used a lot because there are more that date further back than rocks found on earth. Recently a scientist dated a zircon crystal found on earth back to 4.3 billion years old. Evolution and the Big Bang theory is also a key factor in determining the age of the earth from this view point. The Big Bang theory states that all the particles in the universe came together and started an explosion which turned into a substance that expanded into our earth. This took millions of years and millions more for our earth to cool and be ready to inhabit life. The redshift in the universe is great evidence for this …show more content…

One of the similarities is that both believe that the fossil record has an order. The Grand Canyon is great proof for this because you can see the layers and the fossil patterns. Plate tectonics is another theory that both can agree on. You can see the evidence for this with similar fossils on different continents and the way they fit together well. They can also agree that the Ice age occurred. The evidence for this is great since we have found frozen mammals in continents. The last thing they can agree on is that neither of these views is a proven fact, and just a
