Literature Review Leadership One important component for the success of any performance group, is leadership. Many believe that without a clear hierarchy, a performance group cannot be successful. In a TED talk by Tom Wujec, the need for leadership was evident. As a social experiment, Tom Wujec decided to travel across the country working with different groups. He would separate these groups into smaller groups of five or six. He would then give them three skewers, a foot of tape, and a marshmallow; their goal was to create the tallest and most stable structure they possibly could. Biro’s interpretation of Coach John Wooden’s pyramid of success, is what a successful leader does. Biro and Wooden believe that, successful leaders look for the hidden efforts of members in the group, those people who work their hardest and do everything to make a group successful. Coach John Wooden believes, it is those people who should have leadership positions, it is those people who are responsible for the success of the group (Biro 201). In many successful groups, the success is only attributed to the leader. That is because most, if not all, successful leaders take this approach when leading their groups to success. By recognizing that everybody learns and performs in different ways can and will help a group to be more successful. Not only will this help a group to be more successful in performance, but also in group relationships (OMBA). Whilst most group members are focused on themselves and their performance, focusing on the strengths and weaknesses of other group members, can also cultivate a good relationship environment within the group. After noticing these things, developing relationships with people who are not like others you have a relationship with can strengthen the group’s success, performance, and love for all the group
