Bill Gates is one of the greatest minds of the twenty first century with his brilliant mind in the technological world, through his creation of Microsoft. Bill and his wife Melinda have taken the world by storm though there charities and numerous donations but they most renowned for their foundation that they have created, though there charitable works that they have done. They have accomplished numerous feats though out the world with their foundations research in medical fields and their achievements in the technology world in the libraries that they have revamped for the people in the United States. The Gates Foundation has turned its attention to the “Teachers Agenda” and the problems that is being faced in the education system in America. The hundreds of millions that Gates has spent on its teacher agenda is the largest nongovernmental investment in K-12 teacher policy (Stephen Sawchuk pg27). Fred M. Hess, the director of education initiatives at the American Enterprise Institute, a free market think tank, which has received $3.7 million from the Gates Foundation since 2008 for education initiatives (Fred M. Hess pg28). The Gates Foundation has awarded $100 million to Hillsborough County, FL, district for “Teachers Agenda” and they have met all its milestones (Anna Brown pg29). The Foundation has also given to the teacher unions including giving the two national teachers unions, including their local affiliates, roughly $20 million in all (Stephen Sawchuk pg30). Bill Gates vast money was able to help him fund his Foundation to help with the needs of the world. One of the issues of the world is that it needs more proper santation. In parts of the world poor sanitation contributes to the deaths of a million and a half children every year (Rebecca Mead pg1). The outhouses built in villages by well-meaning N.G.O.s did not seem to be helping the need in these small third world counties (Rebecca Mead pg1). In these countries there so poor that the outhouses have multipurposes such as storing grain and used as a chicken coop cause there not able to afford something else (Rebecca Mead pg1). Melinda’s last visit to the villages in India she talked with the elder of the village who built the outhouse in front of his house who was particularly proud of the outhouse (Melinda Gates pg2). Then Melinda asked the young lady how did you end up with the outhouse outside of the chief elders house and she responded by saying that they made him think it was his idea and since he was proud of it he would keep it clean (Melinda Gates pg2). The Foundation has been helping with these issues by getting other billion dollar business involved with this world crisis.
