Argument
For my argument project I was asked to do a paper about a problem or situation in my community. I was looking for some ideas and came a across and article about a sex offender moving to our community. I thought that would be an amazing topic to write about. In Dec 2014, a sex offender by the name of Billy Dotson was going to be let out of prison. He was to move to Rose Hill. As anyone could expect not too many people were happy about that. Dotson was to move here as soon as his house on Harris Drive a ready to move in. When people caught word of that there were many complaints. I understand the fear and confusion, and the anger that our little community was facing.
Nobody wants a criminal next door even if he or she has done their time. We all want to believe that our community is above the rest. Dotson did not move to Rose Hill. Once he was released he moved to Sedgwick County because his house burnt down.
During my research I discovered some very interesting information. I was looking for some information on Mr. Dotson and I found that there are other offenders living in our community. There is another offender who lives here who has served time for the same crime.
Another criminal lives a block from me that is a registered felon and has been to prison for criminal discharge of a fire arm. Some people may feel offended or upset because it is not a very comfortable subject. Some of you may think that people should be able to live where ever they want. I respect your thoughts, but I do not agree with them. My goal is to raise awareness and keep as many criminals out of our town as possible. Keeping one criminal from moving here doesn’t make it safe. We have to be aware of who is living here and who is safe to be around. I am asking you for your help to search regularly for offenders in our community and pass the information on to your neighbors. Let’s all stay informed so we can have a safe town to live in. We have to protect one
