Chris Kyle was a former Navy SEAL marksman who became famous after a major Hollywood movie was produced based on his autobiography, “American Sniper.” His book did not reflect many of his selfless and heroic acts which saved many of his fellow comrades. Some of these acts were recorded in an interview and published in a book written by Mark Greenblatt, “Valor: Unsung Heroes from Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Home Front.” Kyle was born in Odessa, Texas on April 8, 1974. He grew up on a ranch and loved the outdoor sports of hunting and entering bronco busting contests. He studied agriculture for two years at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas. He had several hours of conversation with Kyle over the course of writing the book and addressed the negative remarks being made about Kyle. He agreed and Kyle acknowledged he was a “hate-filled” sniper, but not a racist. He hated the insurgents, the Islamic fundamentalist militants against whom they were fighting and referred to them as “just idiots with guns.” Kyle said he was killing them to protect his fellow Americans. He did not have a problem with taking out people who wanted his people dead. Kyle was about protecting all people, regardless of nationality, from the brutality of terrorists who were beheading and torturing civilians. When asked by O’Reilly on his TV show about any regrets he had, Kyle replied that his regret was the people he could not save whether it was Americans, the local Iraqis or anyone who he witnessed violence coming down on. This negates any claim that Kyle was “racist.” Greenblatt recounts stories about Kyle in book that show his heroism in saving his comrades. During the Second Battle of Fallujah in November 2004 Kyle put himself in grave danger rescuing a Marine that had been shot and lay in the street dying.
